Soreness

Woke up this morning more sore than I’ve been since I’ve started this thing.  I guess I must be doing something right.  No pain, no gain, eh?

I’ve been adding more resistance to my elliptical training, so that’s probably it.  I might not be doing sessions that are as long (25 minutes instead of the 30 I was doing the first week), but I sure can feel the difference now.

Last night, my dad asked me how much weight I’ve lost, and I confessed I’m not sure.  I am trying to only weigh myself once a week at the Friday check-ins so I won’t get discouraged throughout the week if I haven’t lost anything.  Anything that’s good for my morale!

I’ve been meaning to post a few healthy recipes, but I haven’t gotten around to sitting down with Janie to write out the recipies.  Half the time she doesn’t really follow a recipe at all!  We had shrimp soft tacos last night.  The tortillas were Ezekial bread, gluten free tortillas from The Granary, a local natural foods grocery store.  They looked a bit scary (think cover of the Necronomicon!) but they were pretty tasty, I guess.  The shrimp was awesome though!

Super Bowl Sunday

Yes, I’ll be watching the Super Bowl. I don’t usually watch football on my own really…it’s just something that’s fun to watch with a big group of people. My dad and stepmom-to-be get very into the games and it’s entertaining to watch their reactions.

Super Bowl Snacks!

We’re ordering a large (VERY large) order of hot wings from Wing Stop today. I figured I can splurge a bit on those, since it’s basically just chicken, and it won’t mess up my diet too terribly much.  I just won’t partake of the french fries that are coming with the wings.  Other snackables will include fresh veggies and dip.  A much better solution than chips and dip.  Yay for yummy, good-for-you snacks.

Super Bowl Exercise!

Excitement shuffle – Jumping up from the couch and yelling at the TV while shuffling feet.

Drink run – Handling drink (alcoholic and otherwise) refills as not to interrupt the more avid fan’s viewing enjoyment.

Ok, so those are a bit silly, but I’m a silly mood.  Silly is good!

Enjoy the Super Bowl folks, and have a great week!

Workout Music

Since starting my daily elliptical sessions about two weeks ago, I’ve found that my absolutely favorite music to workout to is, hands down, the Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog soundtrack.  I’ve listened to it so much that I can time my sessions to the length of the soundtrack.

“My Freeze Ray” is a great pace for warming up, as is “A Man’s Gotta Do.”  I love the rhythm of “My Eyes” and “Brand New Day” for the duration of the workout.

Before, when I’ve tried to workout on the elliptical for long periods of time, I would try watching dvds.  The time always seemed to pass by SO slowly.  Listening to music with headphones is perfect.  I don’t know why I didn’t do it before!  I get so caught up in the music that I sometimes forget I’m working out.  The time passes quickly, and before I know it, my workout is done.

Oh, and if you haven’t watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog yet…. do.  And buy the soundtrack.  Must have!

Geek-Giving.org

I’d like to put in a good word for Healthy Giving affiliate and fellow supporter of The Kids Need to Read Foundation, Geek-Giving.org.  The folks at Geek Giving are encouraging geeks of all shapes and sizes to donate to charity.  They ask a great question,

What if every time you went to a convention, you gave %1 of the money you spent to charity?

I’ve only been to one convention myself (Dallas Comic Con this past weekend in Richardson, TX), but it’s not hard to imagine how much money could be amassed for charity if everyone who was at that convention (and it was a very small convention) donated just %1 of the total they spent at the con.  Even in the times we’re living in, with the way the economy is in the US, just %1 from every convention attendee would make a big difference.

Geek-Giving supports the following charities:

In the UK

Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children

In the US

Team Grunberg National Walk For Epilepsy

The Kids Need to Read Foundation

Equality Now

Geek-Giving also encourages donations to the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program in the name of Kim Manners, director and producer of genre shows The X Files and Supernatural who died from complications of lung cancer on January 25th.

Minimum Pledge Amount

Ni hao!

I decided to lower the minimum pledge amount to $0.50/lb. I think I caught all the instances of the minimum amount mentioned across the site.

If anyone has any questions or concerns about this or anything else about the pledge drive, please contact me.
