The Healthy Giving Pledge Drive, a health challenge for charity undertaken by Longview resident Kazia Hodges, will begin Friday, January 23, 2009 and run until May 23, 2009. The proceeds from the drive will support The Kids Need to Read Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting childhood literacy.
The pledge drive will run for four months, and pledges are taken by per pound lost based on how much total weight is lost during the drive timeline. One time donations are also accepted. Anyone who pledges or donates is eligible for a prize drawing at the conclusion of the pledge drive. The prize package has been generously donated by the Austin Browncoats, primary sponsor of the Healthy Giving Pledge Drive. All pledges and donations are tax-deductible, and donation receipts are provided.
The Kids Need to Read Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which raises money to purchase books which are donated to under-funded schools, libraries and institutions that give books directly to children. The organization was founded in 2007 by science fiction author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion (”Firefly”, “Serenity”, “Waitress”).
